Cellophane Live Art Installation with Sarah Gillings
At this years Lindfield Arts Festival there will be a Cellophane Live Art Installation outside Abbott’s chemist, in the High Street on 21st September. Sarah Gillings is a an award-winning multimedia and street artist who will create a wonderful street art piece using Cellograff. Cellograff is a technique where cellophane is stretched between any available support making paint ready surfaces, in this case Lindfield’s iconic Lime trees!
Cellograff provides the artist the freedom to create murals in a variety of new locations without the restriction of needing a wall. The translucent nature of the plastic adds a fascinating layer of visual complexity to the mural. Sarah’s Cellograff interventions typically involve inserting British wildlife into unexpected settings.
So come along and watch Sarah create a wonderful street art piece using just spray paint and cellophane wrapped around two trees!

Come along to the Articulture Workshop to enjoy a fun, creative morning for kids!
Art with a horticultural theme for kids. A hands on painting workshop for children from as young as 3 years old. With some simple tuition and a little 
help from the ‘garden gang’ (and maybe mum or dad) children can produce awesome pictures of trees and flowers to take home with them, egg box bugs and pollinators and also help to create a very hungry caterpillar.
This will be fun for all, but might get a little messy (so old clothes might be best).
Same Sky join forces
Creative workshop run by Same Sky. No experience needed. Make a colourful autumnal themed lanterns to be used in the Lindfield Arts Festival parade in December. 
Same Sky is an award-winning community arts charity based in the lively seaside city of Brighton and Hove in Sussex. They create magical, out-of-this-world events: luminous night-time parades, fantastical puppets and floats, large-sky fire shows, staggeringly imaginative costumes and concepts. Every step of their creative process is about bringing people together, encouraging equality and belonging through a shared experience of art, and creating moments of magic that will feed the imagination for a long time after.

A big thank you to the Mid Sussex District Council for their ongoing support for the Lindfield Arts festival. This year, we can delight, entertain and inspire our audiences at with mischievous participatory painting, ping pong playing dancers and a shark!
Our three shows will be :
● Bootworks Theatre: We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat
Step inside and pull-up a seat around the hull of the Orca, as we enter the movie world of Jaws! Get ready to embark on underwater exploration, cage diving and shark hunting… because Selsey Amateur Dramatics has a new brand new director looking to make a splash with their first production.
They’re also new to the community and this could be their best chance to make some new friends. Bootworks Theatre’s latest outdoor production tackles the notions of otherness, belonging, difference, and being, allegorically, a ‘fish out of water’.

● Joe Garbett Dance: Doubles
Doubles brings bursts of colour to the streets and village greens in a collision of dance and ping pong.
Watch as the dancers spin and slide in this playful pop-up performance that smashes expectations of dance and advocates the importance of safe, positive and accessible public spaces.

● Eric MacLennan: The Open Air Drawing Room (co-commisioned with Turner Contemporary) 
The Open Air Drawing-Room … begins with an antiquated artists drawing group setting up for some landscape painting. Arrival and unpacking of folding stools, easels, flasks, other knick-knacks and sandwiches etc… But this is no ordinary show – for the audience will be drawn into the group!
Inspired by JMW Turner. A story that delightfully mixes historical biography with the fast contemporary world we now occupy.
An invitation to slow-down. Paint a stone – for Turner – for The Turner Contemporary! Selected from…31 stones – a “mini museum” – each one from the coast of the British isles and named after the atmospheric areas of the shipping forecast . These stones were old when Turner was young. They will still be here when we are gone. We consider Time. We consider Art.
Each artist (audience member) also makes a Cyanotype portrait which will be exhibited as a mirror image to the final painting – A Sea of Faces – embracing Turner’s pioneering interest in photography and his desire to find new ways.
This project invites the public to engage in setting the world record for a painting that has been created by the largest number of artists!
Co commissioned with Turner Contemporary, Margate who will host the Turner prize in October 2019.

Applause Rural Touring takes live arts into the heart of rural communities in Kent and Sussex, and in the summer of 2019, we are supporting, through commission funds and development awards, seven professional companies who have created exciting and interactive shows specifically to tour to outdoor events.

Sarah Gillings is S.O.S, an award-winning multimedia and street artist.
From Disney designer to Street Artist.
S.o.S has been a footwear designer, an advertising agency director and many other creative roles in her life. Her journey into public Arts interactions began humbly hosting an Artists’ Open house, staging public art exhibitions, promoting other artists and finally becoming a professional artist in her own right. Her style of work in the street brings together ideas of branding, marketing, icons and advertisement into her artwork, which often portray women as the central element in the composition. Her Cellograff* interventions also include British wildlife in unexpected settings and this is the type of work that she will be creating for Lindfield’s festival.
*Cellograff is a technique where cellophane is stretched between any available support making paint-ready surfaces. This provides a freedom to create murals in a variety of new locations without the restriction of needing a wall. The translucent nature of the plastic adds a fascinating layer of visual complexity to the mural. S.o.S has been using this technique for the last year.
In 2015 S.o.S was awarded a First Class Honours for a Master of Arts program in Inclusive Arts Practice (IAP). IAP is using art practice for positive social change.
S.o.S won 2 awards in 2015, for a public art design commission at the Brighthelm Centre and the 2015 BrightSpark Award for innovation and original ideas for inclusive spray-paint workshops.
In 2016, S.o.S was offered a place and funding at The School for Social Entrepreneurs to developer spray painting charity.
In 2017 S.o.S founded the UK’s first dedicated spray-painting charity. Raising funds to provide Therapeutic Arts for those disengaged from society.

Bootworks Theatre’s latest outdoor production tackles the notions of belonging, difference and being a ‘fish out of water’. We take the audience on a fun adventure which spans the joys of am-dram ‘warm ups’ to find our ‘inner sharks’.
